NATIONAL WATERWORKS TECHNOLOGY TRAINING INSTITUTE

Thailand has been facing with serious water shortage

Every year, the availability of fresh water resources has been

steadily diminishing with the rapid inpopulation and fast

industrialization. Inadequate system of management technology

for water supply has also obstructed the improvement of public

health and economic growth of the country.

To overcome this situation, the Metropolitan

Waterworks Authority (MWA) and the Provincial Waterworks

Authority (PWA) proposed to establish the National Waterworks

Technology Training Institute (NWTTI) as their joint project

under the cooperation of the Japan International Cooperation

Agency (JICA), in an attempt to train the required engineers

and technicians in an effective and integrated manner.

The Project Phase I was carried out during December

1, 1985 to November 30,1990 for transferring basic waterworks

and followed by the Project Phase II as another five-year

technical and managerial staff who had sufficient knowledge

for applying advanced and appropriate technology to thai

waterworks as to strengthen the capabilition, research and

   development and information exchange.

The Successful Outcome Of The Project

By the completion of the NWTTI Project Phase II, most of advanced and appropriate  waterworks technology in many fields, particularly, know how in training and education program, has been transferred from Japanese experts to MWA and PWA personals, and enabled them to carry out the program by themselves.

The NWTTI projects also encouraged MWA and PWA personals to gain valuable experiences in international training courses which, in turn helped to make the NWTTI well-known .The NWTTI has earned reputation as a leading waterworks training institution of this egion because of its administration structure, qualified experts and modern facilities and equipments.

The Present Activities And Future Role Of NWTTI

NWTTI has been a model and a showcase of the typical project type for technical cooperation among JICA project and has established a high position as a base of information exchange and technical cooperation between not only Thailand and its neighboring countries in Asia and the Pacific , but also Japan, There are number of delegations sent by JICA to observe  NWTTI and its activities under the technical exchange program and the training under tripartite

arrangement.

It is entrusted by the Department of Technical and Economic Cooperation of Thailand and the Japan International Cooperation Agency to orgenise an international course on Water Supply Technology under the Third Country Training Program. The course has been implementing once a year from 1993 until 2002 for 18-20 scholarship trainees from 15 member countries in the Asia-Pacific region.

NWTTI has conducted the Water Supply Technology and Management Courses to satisfy demands from foreign countries such as  Vietnam, Cambodia, China, and Lao PDR. Our staffs have been dispatched as JICA experts to Cambodia, Vietnam, Lao PDR. and others under the third Country Expert Program.

NWTTI under the support of MWA and PWA, will carry on its important role by serving as a central training center to contribute to the improvement of water supply and Pacific Region. NWTTI also offers technical service in form of organizing a special training course or a technical visit program suitable to the requirement of the clients concern in waterworks.
